Obama has said that since he has taken office US and Latin America trade is up significantly. He has signed free trade agreements with Columbia and Panama. He also feels that LatAm has huge potential in growth over the next decade. We have seen increased infrastructure projects in Brazil with the World Cup and the Olympics taking place in 2014 and 2018. There has also been an increase in trade between China and Latin America. Latin America is a great place to start investing to diversify a portfolio away from developed countries as they struggle to recover from the recent downturn. Excel Funds recently IPO the Latin America bond fund that has been trading at a premium since its inception. It has a distribution of 7.75% that is paid out on a quarterly basis. Excel also has a Latin America fund managed by ITAU, the largest Latin America bank, for investors looking to invest in equities.
